From egg to butterfly! One of my favorite things to learn about! The opportunity to watch and learn about a caterpillar changing into a butterfly has always been fascinating to me. Learning about the life cycle of a butterfly is an essential life science concept. This week we learn about the butterfly egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, moth, straw, leaf, hexagon, and metamorphosis.
Excited to be a part of such a fantastic program Experience Early Learning Curriculum provides many games, projects, and art supplies in weekly tool bags. Each day we are given a community challenge, language, math, creative arts, and music. With each of these learning opportunities, we are given prompts, and opportunities to discuss and explore and challenge our kids.
EGGS ON A LEAF
We learned including me that butterflies lay their eggs on and under leaves to keep them safe and hidden. We decided to put our leaves on top of the eggs they said because then we could watch to see if anything would hatch.

SMALL GROUP LITERACY
Write letters Kk, Mm, and Xx on the leaf paper. We set out the paper and our kids practiced writing their letters on it!

CREATIVE CORNER – CATERPILLAR SCULPTURE
When might a caterpillar be afraid? Caterpillars are easy prey for birds, wasps, and mammals. We attached our noodles to make our very own pet caterpillars. Our preschoolers enjoyed pretending they had little pets.

DRAWING THE LIFE CYCLE
Because my children are a bit smaller I drew the different images and the kids colored the pictures. We encouraged them to share what they knew about each picture.
