Teaching Math To My Little Ones

Most of the time when you mention math everyone panics, including myself.   With me working in early childhood education I try to teach simple mathematical concepts.  I use easy terminology, and keep it simple.  Most of my little ones might not be ready to learn the practice of math skills.  But they do like to play games that helps them.

We  do a lot of counting things out and grouping.  Not just on paper.  For example candy is a real good way to grab attention.  I would say Randy you can get three red skittles and 3 green skittles, he says ok.  I then ask him how many skittles candies do you have?  He answers 6.  Super simple and fun but it teaches him a math concepts. The concepts we teach children now will stick with them as they get older.   I try to make it fun and at their skill level that way they find success.  They are so proud when they get the answers right!

Mother Goose Time has several concepts.  Literature, Community Involvement, small group math, community challenge and creative corner.

This weeks lesson in Mother Goose we have been learning INDOOR SIGHTS & SOUNDS, we have been investigating household noises (their favorite).   We also spiced up our learning with making sweet treats.

MAKING SWEET TREATS WITH MOTHER GOOSE – THEY FELT LIKE THEY WERE REALLY BAKING, SO CUTE

They were so focused on this activity we talked about if they bake with their family, or what types of cookies they like.  And of course we managed to eat some of the sprinkles. 🙂

SNOW TRACKS

We traveled to the park for this adventure,  and of course you can see we had sun and it was a great day to be at the park.  You can see from the smiles on their faces that Snow Tracks was a favorite.

DECORATING AND LACING OUR STOCKING

I love that all the activities that are provided can span between all ages.  The age range here is 2-5.

Letter O and making our books,  I think this is a great way to support our letter of the week, they enjoy coloring and going over the sounds that the letter makes.

The books that Mother Goose Time Curriculum provides are amazing, they enjoy the story and pick up on the sight words quick, they also love that they get to take them home.
